NBA notes - 1/07/2007

Good day for me with the Suns beating the Warriors (and I could watch the entire game) and the Lakers beating the Mavs thus ending their 13 game winning streak. Kobe had a good game (26-8-6), but Sasha Vujacic was the guy hitting the big shots. Kobe seems to be playing more and more like Lebron these days with the way he is sharing the ball. Lets see how long this lasts. Suns on the other hand dismissed the Warriors quite easily. The game was close in the first half as Suns had problem hitting the 3's in the first quarter. It's amazing how they still scored 29 points anyways! Part of it was that the Warriors also play up and down, but the real reason is that they just don't stop running or gunning. They are never going to stop shooting those 3's and they have so many good shooters like Nash, Raja, Barbosa, James Jones etc., that someone will eventually find the touch on the long ball. They got no other choice anyways. Running, spacing and shooting the open 3 is their game plan and they can't stop shooting the 3 just because it's not going in. Barbosa came off the bench at the end of the first quarter and was on fire immediately. Things turned around for the Suns right there and they never looked back in the second half. James Jones had 25 points and apparently he loves the "new" old ball. Mike has been talking about how he would like to give more minutes to his bench to protect the starters and James Jones might be coming into his own at the right time for that to happen. Suns are deep and that depth has to be exploited and be productive for them to go deep.

Dwayne Wade returned for the Miami Heat and boy are they glad to have him back! The T-Wolves are slowly putting together a nice streak. Garnett is playing real well and today they beat the Rockets in OT. Second straight OT win for Garnett and the T-Wolves. Ginobli had 34 point for the Spurs. I think Ginobli is the key to the Spurs. He needs to be consistent and get back to his form of 2 years ago. He was injured most of last season and is not playing very consistent this season. He had to step up his game today since Tony Parker was injured. But in general, he needs to play well and help the Spurs get past the Mavs who seem to have overtaken the Spurs after all these years. Gil probably had too much to drink in his birthday party. The Wizards lost to the Raptors despite his 33.

Dallas @ LA Lakers - 98-101
Golden State @ Phoenix - 105-128

Interesting games on the board for the Jan 8-th (Monday)

Houston @ Chicago - Good match-up with McGrady on fire.

Milwaukee @ Denver - Should be fun. Can Denver beat anybody?
