NBA notes - 1/05/2007

Suns won easily. So did the Lakers against AI and the Nuggets. Surprisingly, both Lebron and Kobe had just 8 points today. I don't think that'll happen again anytime soon. AI scored only 16 himself. Bryant is consistently having high assists numbers now. Looks like he is really trying to be a team player. Bynum might become a great running-mate for Kobe in the future. He had a 19-10 night. Vinsanity had a monster dunk in the Nets game against the Bulls where they started the game trailing 18-0, but they came back to beat the Bulls. Kidd had a sweet no-look behind the head basket too. The stars of the night were McGrady with 44 and Gilbert Arenas with 35-7-12. It's kind of nice to see McGrady dominate again with Yao being out. Makes him look good. It looks like he is deferring to Yao, but can take over when they need him to.

The game of the night was played in San Antonio with the Mavs visiting the Spurs. Mavs once again proved they are the best team in the NBA. They are deep, talented and are playing great as a team. Josh Howard is slowly becoming an absolute stud and Nowitzki is just getting better and better at both ends of the floor year after year. He is as close to being a complete player as he has ever been and is a legitimate MVP candidate this year. He had 36-8 today and also defended Tim Duncan at times. I have to add him and Gilbert Arenas to the list of contenders for Nash's MVP crown this season. The Spurs are looking vulnerable for the first time in a loooong time and Dallas looks clearly better than them. It's early, but it looks like we might be headed to another Suns-Mavs Western conference finals. I think Dallas will beat the Spurs if they meet in the playoffs and I sure hope Suns do the same if they run into them. The Mavs might be another story for the Suns though.

Dallas @ San Antonio – 90-85
Miami @ Phoenix – 80-108
Denver @ LA – 104-123
Cleveland @ Milwaukee – 95-86

Interesting games on the board for the Jan 6-th (Saturday)

New Jersey @ Cleveland – Can Vince outshine The King?

Detroit @ Chicago – Big game in the central. Big Ben will be ready for this one.
