"Boring" win for the Spurs - NBA playoff notes - 05/20/2007

The Spurs today showed why this series is probably not going to be as much fun as their previous one against the Suns. I am sure there will be many close games in this series, but Spurs are just way better. They came out today just 39 hours after beating the Suns and quickly continued their great play. The Jazz started the game strong with a 7-0 lead, but once Pop took a timeout and settled the kids down, it was all Spurs the rest of the first half. The energy was supplied by Ginobili once he came in to the game. He was spectacular. It looked very much like the Ginobili from 2005 when they won the championship. This guy is key to the Spurs. He is so versatile and does so many things on the offensive end, he makes that offense indefensible. You know Timmy is going to be there and Tony will do his thing in the open court and if the defense is soft, but it's Ginobili who often wrecks havoc. He can shoot the jumper, get to the rim, set up his teammates, take and make ill-advised 3's. He just keeps the defense on it's toes.

Led by Manu, the Spurs made a run and took a 18 point lead at the half. The Spurs D was on point as always as they completely bottled up Carlos Boozer in the first half. Deron was the only guy who was having a decent game, as Fish, AK-47 and Okur were all MIA. Deron though was having his hands full trying to defend Tony. Tony was too quick for him and Tony played a great game today. The Spurs big 3 basically took control of this game and pretty much put it away by half-time.

The second half was not much different as the Jazz played a little better, but couldn't stop the Spurs big-3 and Oberto. Utah couldn't cut in to lead even in to the fourth quarter, but then Deron took over. He played a great quarter of ball to cut the 18 point lead to 7 a couple of times. In all, he had a 34-7-9 game and coach Sloan is hoping he can take his 4-Th quarter "game" in to the rest of the series. The Jazz at one point in the 4-Th scored 10 straight, but they just could not overcome the horrible 29% shooting in the first half. Too little too late against a Spurs team that was too good. The big 3 got it done today. 27-10-5 for Timmy, 23-4-10 on 9/14 shooting for Manu and 21-6 for Tony.

Utah @ San Antonio - 108-100

Playoff schedule for 05/21/2007

Cleveland @ Detroit - Cavs and the King have to play out of their mind to even have a chance in this series.
