Yao's (almost) back - NBA notes - 03/05/2007

Yao was back today, though he looked real rusty. He threw up an array of air-balls and rim-rattlers. He also had a nasty fall as he tripped over big-Z and luckily it was not as bad as it looked. T-Mac had another tough shooting night as he shot 10/32 and they were no match for the LeBrons. King had 32-12-8 as his awesome stretch continues. By the way, he should have 12 boards every game given his size and athleticism. I will cut him some slack on the assists as he might actually have 8 dimes every game if any of the other Cavs can shoot to save their lives! LeBron also stole an alley-hoop dunk from Anderson Varejao as both went up for the ball simultaneously. Van Gundy seemed to go to Yao a little bit too much on his first day back. He is either sick of seeing T-Mac shooting or may be he just realized T-Mac is having a bad shooting streak going the last few games.

The Warriors went into Detroit and bitch-slapped the best team in the East 111-93. Looked like they were really motivated after the "T-defeat" at Washington yesterday. Also B-Dizzle was back and that always helps though he had 7 turnovers. The Warriors put 6 guys in double digits. Detroit is not going to win too many games when Lindsey Hunter is their leading scorer with 20. San Antonio won at the Clip-joint for their season-high 9 straight wins. They are slowly but surely asserting themselves in the race for the West. In other games, Mehmet Okur scored 32 for the Jazz on 13/15 shooting. I am amazed watching this guy shoot. At 7 feet, he is probably one of the best shooters in the league. He can hit an array of jumpers from pretty much anywhere on the floor. He is as comfortable from mid-range as he is from beyond the arc and his stroke is pure. He is the Turkish Nowitzki! Utah easily beat the Bobcats in-spite of Gerald Wallace scoring 33 points. He is quietly having a monster year - the kind of which only the true fantasy geeks might appreciate or even notice :-)

Houston @ Cleveland - 85-91

Interesting games on the board for Mar 6-th (Tuesday)

Toronto @ Washington - Division leaders square off.

LA Lakers @ Minnesota - Every game is a tough game for the Lakers now.

New Jersey @ Dallas - The winning streak continues.
